Volunteer - It's Good For You

2011 is the European Year of Volunteering so there has never been a better time to share your skills and develop new ones while giving some time to other people, projects and worthy causes.

We in the Students Union have always promoted Volunteering and since 2005 have sponsored DIT students who work for charity in the summer as part of the  DITSU C.S.R. (CORPORATE & SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY) policy.

If you are going abroad to volunteer in 2011, and need help with the funding,  get your application in before 16th March

Full details, criteria and application forms for C.S.R. Funding are here

There are loads of options right here in DIT for you to do something special - from raising money for the RAG charity, helping a local homework or kids sports club, helping out the Chaplains or St Vincent de Paul Society or going abroad in Summer to work as a volunteer.

RAG 2011
This year DIT Students' Union are very happy to be fundraising for  citywise which is a not-for-profit organisation which runs education, sporting and personal development programmes, as a response to educational under-achievement of young people living in difficult city backgrounds.

Our hope is that DIT students will become involved with the charity on more than just a fundraising level.  Money is not the only valuable commodity - so is your time!

Camara

Do something truly memorable this summer. Camara Education is a Dublin based NGO who provide recycled computer hardware and training to schools in East Africa. We are currently recruiting Volunteers for four and five week assignments in East Africa, departing early or late July (depending on destination) . We are looking for enthusiastic people with a background in either Teaching/Lecturing/Training or Computing, both fully qualified and students. All training is provided in Dublin, mostly on Saturdays. You will be part of a Team of 5 to 8 individuals, and, working closely with our local partners, gain a unique insight into African life. You will need to fund-raise 2800euro to cover your expenses, but these assignments are run on a "break-even" basis. This money covers your training, accommodation, local travel and flights.
For full details, contact Frank on (01) 652 2668 or frank@camara.ie....."

In today’s economic climate graduate recruiters are increasingly looking for more out of their applicants than just a degree. Not only do they want to see a wider range of experience, but they also want to see evidence of how it’s gained. Volunteering is the ideal way to gain those skills and to gather evidence along the way. At DIT we actively encourage students to give a little back.  So volunteer, get involved and be a graduate with a difference.
