STIs
STI screening means you’re being tested for a full range of STIs at the same time.
STI screening is available at a fee of
15 euro at the DIT Student Health Centres.
The service is completely
confidential and non-judgemental.
You should have an STI screening if:
You have had unprotected oral, vaginal or anal sex with one or more partners.
Your sexual partner has had unprotected sex with someone other than you.
You have any unusual symptoms including :
-Unusual discharge from your penis or vagina.
-Pain when passing urine.
-Unusual sores or blisters in the genital or rectal area.
-Itching or irritation in the genital area.
-Pain during sex.
Condoms protect against most but not all STIs.In fact, the only way to stay 100% protected from STIs is to abstain from sex altogether!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Remember that some STIs show no visible symptoms. You won’t always know if you need a check-up but if you had unprotected sex even once you may be at risk of having an STI.
The STI screening at the DIT student Health Centres involves:
A consultation with a nurse. The nurse will take a medical and sexual history (details about previous partners, any symptoms etc…)
She will provide you with information on STIs, discuss any concerns you may have and prioritise your need for screening.
The nurse will then arrange a date for physical examination..
Students in the Northside Colleges should visit a nurse in Linenhall Student Health Centre and students in the Southside Colleges should visit a nurse in Angier St. Student Health Centre for their first consultation with the nurse.
The physical examination and testing takes place on Tuesday and Friday
Mornings and lasts approx 20 mins.
Blood samples are taken for HIV, Hep B and Syphilis.
You will also be examined for the presence of Genital warts.

A smear test will be taken if indicated.
