DITSU Corporate & Social Responsibility Programme

Corporate Social Responsibility Programme

In 2004/2005 DIT Students’ Union introduced a Corporate Social Responsibility programme in response to the Tsunami disaster in Indonesia.  DITSU sponsored two ex sabbatical officers who volunteered to spend 6 weeks working in the worst affected areas.

In 2005/2006 DIT Students’ Union sponsored three students who worked in various projects from working in a Tsunami Volunteer Centre to refurbishing old computer for communities in Kenya.

Each Summer since then, DIT students have been to such places as Calcutta, Kenya, Malawi and lots more, giving their time and we have been very happy to support them.

*Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a term that has in recent years increasingly entered into the business of language.  It is a term that means many different things to different people.  To some is it corporate responsibility, to others private voluntary initiatives, and to others corporate social opportunity.

Perhaps the most commonly stressed aspect of CSR is its voluntary nature, and the case for maintaining this voluntary characteristic is very strong.  Activities and initiatives to promote CSR are unique to each company.  They are not uniform nor can they be made uniform, as each company’s experience is so different.
