College is hard on the bank balance. What with Student nights out, the call of the your new local, new threads, deposit on your new gaff, sheets for your new bed, take-aways (cos you can't work the oven) and of course books & supplies, it doesn't go far. Ignoring your finances and having no plan is not the answer.

We've all tried it, it doesn't work. If you don't get sorted you'll soon be in trouble.  It is essential to balance your spending and your income.  Don't worry, it's not as difficult as its sounds.

On your left are some super sensible  ideas for you to maximise your income and minimise your expenditure so you can enjoy your year without losing your shirt. We even have a t shirt for you in the SU if you do!

Is pay day the only day you're not terrified to look at your bank balance? Tot up how much you earn/receive every month and then subtract rent, bills, & repayments and divide what is left into four. This is your weekly spend allowance. Withdraw it in cash every Monday - keep it safe and do not overspend!
Simple – yet effective.

DIT provide Financial Assistance for students in need. All full-time students in courses longer than a year may apply for this fund. Certain conditions apply but the important thing to remember is that unlike the grant you are measured off your own means, rather than your parents. If you have any queries regarding the forms contact your Union.

Every year the DIT Students' Union deals with students who have severely mismanaged their income and ended up in severe debt. If you find yourself in trouble drop in to the SU office or email David at vpacademic@ditsu.ie and we'll help get you sorted.
