RAG Week

RAG stands for ‘Raising And Giving’. What this means is that every year DIT Students’ Union will fundraise in the name of a chosen charity for the entire academic year. Most of this fundraising will focus around RAG Charity Week- a weeklong fundraising celebration choc-o-bloc with entertainment and ways for you to get involved.

What's the Schedule for RAG Charity Week 2013?

You can find the full schedule in this News Story.

How can I get involved

Of course we will be laying on ways for you to get involved during RAG Charity Week, in the past these have ranged from Sponsored Swims to Bungee Jumps as well as nights out. However, we encourage you to organise your own (sponsored headshaves/waxes, sports matches etc. etc.) event and we will support you in what ever way we can. Just get in touch with your VP Will and he will see you right.

How was the Charity chosen?

Every year students can nominate deserving charities which are then asked to come in and present themselves to your Student Council. The Councillors then vote on who they would like to support for the year. This year Pieta Housewas chosen as our RAG Charity for 2012/13.

Tell me more about Pieta House

Pieta House, the centre for the prevention of self-harm or suicide, opened in Lucan, Co Dublin, in January 2006. Since then, they’ve also opened two outreach centres in Tallaght, Dublin 24, and Finglas, Dublin 11, as well as two centres of excellence in Ballyfermot, Dublin 10, and Limerick.

Pieta House now has a staff of 80 and the demand for our services hasn’t let up. In 2012, more than 3,000 people came to Pieta House for help and the numbers contacting us are rising all the time.

Pieta House wants to:

  • reduce the number of deaths by suicide
  • reduce the number of people engaging in self-harm
