Employment
*Many of the large student employers don't advertise. Call the HR departments of the large stores like Dunnes, Penneys, Easons and Debenhams and send them your CV.
**Your CV and Cover letter makes the first impression on your prospective employer. The Student Support Advisors in your local SU office will be glad to help you with these.
***Whether you are working full time, part time, under 18 or an International Student you are protected by the employment legislation (laws) of this country.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS and what to do if you think you are being treated unfairly.
DIT Careers Service advises
that in the long term a qualification is no longer enough to guarantee
you a good job once you finish studying. So when you start looking for
part-time work you should consider a job which is related
to your 'bigger picture'.
However, any work that you do improves your future employment prospects. Students & graduates with work experience
are more attractive to employers because they have already developed skills such as communication, leadership, teamwork
and initiative. Remember working with the Students' Union helps you develop these skills and looks great on your cv.
