About Us

DIT Students' Union is the largest Students' Union in Ireland. Every one of the 21000 plus students of DIT automatically becomes a member of the Union on registration.
Each year three Sabbatical Officers - President and two Vice Presidents and six Class Rep Convenors are voted in by the students. These elected officers are supported by a team of full time staff hroughout their term of office. Full contact list to be found here.

OUR MISSION

DIT Students' Union aims to represent and defend its student members and their interests at local, national and international levels on matters primarily relating to their education and welfare and to protect and further their rights as citizens. In addition it shall promote Clubs, Societies and other non-academic activities and shall provide a range of services for its members.

The DIT Students' Union shall remain totally apolitical and non-party political in character and shall embrace the values of accountability, democracy, efficiency, professionalism and transparency in all its activities and dealings.

BACKGROUND

The DIT Students' Union (DITSU) is the largest Students' Union in the country and is the representative body for all students of the Institute. All students who pay capitation (full-time, part-time, day / block release, postgraduate, apprentice and ERASMUS) become members of the Students' Union upon registration at the Institute. DIT Students' Union is affiliated to USI (Union of Students in Ireland), which is the national representative body for students.

The work of the Union and the agenda of its Elected Officers are monitored by SU Governing Council. Governing Council is the executive body of the DIT Students' Union and it is where students discuss, debate and decide what activities the SU becomes involved in, what campaigns it runs, what policies its holds.

DITSU works with the college authorities on the various DIT Committees. These cover all aspects of college life from DIT governance, to academic issues, to social & cultural activities. In addition, the DIT Students' Union elected officers & staff regularly liase with DIT personnel on specific issues

DIT Students' Union has established two private limited companies which hold the funds, assets and liabilities of the Students' Union; DITSU Limited (established in 1984) and DITSU Trading Limited (established in 1994)

DITSU Ltd looks after the main affairs and operations of the Students' Union.
DITSU Trading Ltd is a subsidiary of DITSU Ltd and is concerned with commercial activities only.

Under company law, a private limited company must have a Board of Directors, consisting of at least 2 directors. Directors have certain responsibilities under company law and must act in the best interest of the company they direct
