Well, how’s she cuttin’?
A greeting more suited to Bolton St perhaps, but the sentiment remains! The mania of elections is all in past now and your new sabbatical team for the forthcoming academic year has been chosen. Aungier St were the most improved site in all of DIT in terms of voter turnout. We had 808 students use their vote and use their voice over the last week in Aungier St, a sizeable proportion of the 3,500 total overall. Well done to ye all – democracy feels good, doesn’t it?
The insanity that is RAG Week, however, is just beginning! You’ve a week to prepare, so make sure ye use it wisely! Scroll down for some more info about what’s happening in Danger St for RAG...
We have brand spanking new TVs out in Aungier St but they haven’t been turned on! What’s the story? Societies are passing the buck to the Union and the Union are passing it back to Socs – get it sorted folks!
That’s about all I have for ye at this stage folks! When the news hits, you’ll have it here first.
Eric
Will You Be On The RAG Next Week?
Ladies and gents, the most fun-filled, action-packed, drink-soaked, dare-laden week in all of the DIT calendar is nearly upon us! Ye know already about the overall events, but what’s happening here in Danger St for your titilation? Take a look-see...
Monday 8th March: Comedian! Laugh your arse off and make sure to drop some spare pennies into the RAG buckets!
Tuesday 9th March: Iron Stomach! Watch people eat disgusting things for your amusement.
Wednesday 10th March: There’s only one way of describing this...a man who breaks bricks off himself. Don’t worry, it’s all above board!
Thursday 11th March: Keith Quinlan & John May! They’re two Cathal Brugha Streeters, but don’t hold it against ‘em! The two boys will be bringing along their guitars to cover such classics as I’m On A Boat and Dick In A Box. If you wanna join ‘em on stage, feel free!
Art & Design Week – Exhibition In Aungier St
Exactly what it says on the tin! On Wednesday March 3rd there’ll be an exhibition in the Courtyard Café from 5.30pm for Art & Design Week. Some of the works of art will even be on sale if you’re feeling generous...
USI National Congress
Of the 22 DITSU delegates attending USI National Congress in Easter, Keeli Neenan, my good self and Darren Bates will be representing Aungier St. Keeli’s travelling as an observer and myself and Darren are fully-fledged delegates. Darren’s a previous winner of Best Virgin Speaker at USI National Congress and a Governing Councillor, Keeli’s a Governing Councillor and I’m your Convenor, natch (!), so Aungier St will have a loud voice in representing you at a national level.
And Finally...
Crystal Swing. A country family from Cork who have no idea what the term “sexual innuendo” means.

Keep It Clean!
The common room is starting to look a bit better on the aul rubbish front but we need to keep up the good work! The cleaning staff have been hit badly by the cutbacks, so give them a hand here, guys!
Additionally, and I can’t believe that I’m typing this, what’s the story with the jacks in the basement? They’re blocked up more times than they’re working! Is it that big of a laugh?! Have a bit of consideration for other students, please!
Black Box? Biscuit Box? The Riddle Solved!
Keep an eye out, ‘cos in the near future there’s gonna be a big, swanky ceremony to rename Aungier Street’s favourite multi-purpose activity space, The Black Box! That’s right, the venue of films, plays, lectures, meetings and general tomfoolery will officially be rechristened The Biscuit Box! When I say swanky and big, those phrases are open to interpretation…but rumours abound of a special mystery guest! Keep your eyes peeled!
Interestingly enough (or not, if you aren’t a history buff), the name The Biscuit Box arises from Aungier St history. The college you walk into every day used to be the site of the old Jacob’s Factory and was one of the sites taken by the 1916 Rising rebels! Don’t go getting any ideas, now…
Any Ideas For RAG?
While your Convenor and LPIT might be beavering away with local events for RAG Week, we’d love to hear from you if you’ve any suggestions for good events! Just pop into the office or drop us an email! Who knows, you might be able to say that the Iron Stomach competition was your idea…
And Finally…
Shatner on the Mount. William Shatner’s verbal diahorrea in song form.Local Democracy in Action!
Say hello to your Governing Councillors! These are the thirteen men and women who represent you guys at the highest decision-making level within the DIT Students' Union. If you see one of them knocking about and you want something raised at Governing Council, feel free to have a chat with them;Governing Councillors

Not only that, but we've got Part-Time Officers too! There are six Part-Time Officers, who, together with the Class Rep Convenor, form LPIT (Local Programme Implementation Team). The LPIT meet once a month to discuss what's happening on site and think up of ideas for local events, campaigns etc. Your LPIT looks like this;

You'll see the PTOs around campus, so if there's anything you feel that needs to be discussed and falls under their brief, just say it to them!
That's democracy in action!
